DOJ Announces Nationwide Tax Fraud Crackdown Targeting $490 Million in Losses
The Department of Justice announced 76 prosecutorial actions against defendants in a nationwide tax fraud enforcement surge spanning 45 days, involving more than $490 million in alleged and proven intended losses. The effort included new charges against 31 defendants whose alleged schemes targeted approximately $350 million.
The DOJ also reported more than 1,000 major fraud enforcement actions nationwide since Attorney General Todd Blanche established the National Fraud Enforcement Division. Officials say the broader effort targets fraud involving taxpayer-funded programs, including Medicaid, SNAP, HUD and Social Security, as well as schemes targeting the IRS.
