Trump Administration Targets Improper Health Insurance Subsidies
Health officials in the Trump administration are working to eliminate improper health insurance subsidies and duplicate coverage across federal programs. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Dr. Mehmet Oz and Andrew Ferguson discuss efforts to strengthen program integrity, prevent improper payments and protect taxpayer dollars.
Dr. Oz says efforts to eliminate duplicate coverage saved taxpayers an estimated $4.4 billion in 2025, with an additional $1.5 billion in projected savings over the next 12 months. Officials also report identifying approximately 189,000 subsidized enrollments involving duplicate coverage or deceased enrollees.
CMS says a data match does not automatically indicate fraud and that enrollees are given an opportunity to resolve discrepancies. Officials say the goal is to stop improper payments while ensuring eligible Americans retain their coverage.
