Dr. Oz Expands CMS Program for Chronic Conditions I OAN News
CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz announced an expansion of the ACCESS Model, giving people with Original Medicare more technology-supported options for managing chronic conditions.
The expansion will add new tracks for heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, substance use disorders and tobacco cessation. CMS also plans to extend support for certain chronic musculoskeletal conditions beyond the initial care period.
The model can use virtual care, remote monitoring, connected devices, wearables and AI-enabled technologies to support patients between doctor visits. The new condition tracks are scheduled to begin in spring 2027.
